SWEPT NEW YORK CITY ALDERMEN MUST KNOW WHERE THEY ARE AT BEFORE THEY WILL VOTE FOR STARTING ON THE WOOD- WORTH LAKE WORKS city hydro-electric scheme before they know what it is going to cost or where the money is coming from. From appearances it is sur- mised in some quarters that some of the aldermen intend to try and start the work irrespec- tive of circumstances so that the city will be compellea to com- plete the undertaking in spite of any cost which may result. This policy does not appeal to all the aldermen. ‘They want to know exactly what this work is going to cost on an estimate un- der present conditions. “/CLASSIC PROGRAM | | | | | } j | BY ORPHEUS SOCIETY Entertainment Wednesday Night Which Will Give Surprise of Good Talent One of the most attractive en- tertainments of the season will be the grand concert under the auspices of the Orpheus society on the evening of the 18th in the Westholme theatre. The program is made up of purely local talent, but that does not mean that it will be amateur in character. As a matter of fact Prince Rupert has a nunthber of musicians of exceptional tal- ent and the Orpheus society has gathered it into a program of real merit. The glee club, comprising some twenty male voices, will give five numbers on the pro- gram and any of the few whvu have heard this club at practice will readily admit that their numbers alone would give au evening's enjoyment. Their voices are well chosen and blend perfectly. The selections are classical, as is the whole pro- gram, but it does not require a trained ear to appreciate and thoroughly enjoy the singing. Mr. Davey wields the baton for the choruses. Other numbers on the program include an orchestra, vocal and instrumental solos, vocal duets and readings. Every number on the program is a good one and The News can recommend this entertainment to the public. To the Grave The funeral of John Kelly, the railroad man who was burned in a shack near Van Arsdol, was held here this morning. High mass was sung in the R. CQ, chureh and Rev. Father Buenoz officiated at the grave. Inter- ment was at Fairview. Deceased has two brothers in the city. He was an old resident of Rupert and owned property here. BANISH BULLY BOWSER.
