By the singing of the National Anthem at the morning and eve- ning services in the city churches yesterday the occasion of the Coronation of King George V. was marked. Eight members of the orchestra took part and rendered sacred music to the evi- dent appreciation of the large audience. Ensign Johnstohe is particularly appreciative of the kindness of the members and organisers of the orchestra for their assistance in making his services bright and attractive. STRAIGHT TALK Pastor Scores Congregation— Praises Salvation Army “If you want to stay away from church do so when I am _ here not only when Ensign Johnstone occupies the pulpit. If you do so then, I wish you would stay away all together! It is not fair for us as a Christian body to leave the Salvation Army to do all the dirty work. ‘When there is anybody to be helped the Salvation Army is rung up and then when Ensign Johnstone comes here to conduct the service in my absence half the congregation stay away.’’ This is what Rev. F. W. Kerr of the Presbyterian Church said last night in the heat of righteous indigna- tion. He scored the followers of the church for their apathy and unfairness. HAD NARROW ESCAPE Fred Brusquar of Stewart, was Swamped in a Gasoline Boat Fred Bruaquar had a close cal! while returning from Prince Ru- pert in a gasoline boat last Sunday. The boat left here in the boat belonging to the Stewart Transfer Company to tow back to Stewart another boat that Brusquar had purchased in Rupert. All went well until the return trip when they ran into a terrific storm. while crossing the mouth of the Naas River, and before they could get into shelter the Transfer boat was swamped, and Brusquar un- doubtedly owes his life to the fact that there was a tow line between the two boats, and it was by this means that he managed to reach the first boat after the accident.— Portland Canal Miner.
