FINANCIAL ILLUMINATION BRILLIANT BUT T00 BRIEF ALDERMAN MORRISSEY MAKES FOR CITY’S GOOD WHICH A ES A CALCULATION WITH ZEAL 18, ALAS, DASHED BY A DELUGE FROM THE MAYOR. A brilliant financial light shone upon Alderman Morrissey’s in- telligence last night. He dis- covered that some $40,000 have been laid out on a pole line for the city lighting system which will probably be needed for the hydro electric system. “Why not obtain a reimbursement of $40,- 000 now for the general fund from the hydro electric advances guaranteed?” he asked, adding, “If we are working on a system of robbery of one fund to another we may as well get in right.” The Mayor said that there were too serious objections to Alder- man Morrissey's plan. One was that every cent of the hydro elec- tric appropriation would be needed to bring the water in from Shawatlans Lake and the other was that Mr. Claney of the Bank of Montreal was flatly op- posed to making any advances involving the taking of money from one fund to give to another.
