Phone 83 Told in "The Master Race" Showing at the Capitol The theory that the Germans, responsible lor two world wars, are making detailed plans for their third attempt at world conquest Is the theme of "The Master Race," coming to the Capitol Theatre Wednesday. The picture presents a dramatic, believable story, based on already-published evidence from Nazi sources, of the cunning with which the recent, rulers of Germany were planning to sow seeds of discord and suspicion throughout the world after their surrender, to ;nake their next attempt more likely to succeed. The story paints a grim, disturbing picture of the care with which the United Nations must examine collapse on the part of the Germans, and their protesta tions of repentance for the misery they have brought the world. The picture features a strong cast headed by George Coulourls, Osa Massen, Nancy Gates, Carl Esmond, Morris Carnovsky, Stanley Ridges and Gavin Muir. Conversation with contemporaries on every subject from politics to jazz, and listening to the radio, came first and second respectively in the pastimes of the age group. The survey reports that 40 per cent of the young people in the group under study read from five to 15 books a year; 10 per cent read a book a week; 20 per cent read less than five jjooks a year. City children In the higher Income brackets were the greatest readers with 21 per cent reading at least a book a week while only seven per cent of the group surveyed 1b the lower Income group read that amount. Canadians in this age group read about half the books borrowed from 800 to 900 public libraries across the country. Reviewing the number and quality of libraries across the Dominion, the Youth Commission reports that a levy of 50 cents per capita Is reckoned as the minimum on which ah adequate library service can be maintained. In Canada in 1942, less than 20 cents per capita was spent on libraries, compared with 30 cents In Britain and 40 cents In the United States.
